Study Abroad Scholarships

Next Monday, January 23, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. an information table introducing the UHCC International/Study Abroad Scholarships for year 2017-2018 will be
​set up​ in front of the Ka Lama building. ​Class visits by the reps from UHCC VP Morton’s office to various classes are also scheduled for that day.

Each year our international scholarship recipients from UH Maui College have had life-changing experiences due to study abroad opportunities.  Please spread the word and encourage your students to apply to one or more of the following scholarships:

Honda Study Abroad Scholarship (deadline: March 1, 2017 at 4:00pm HST)
$2,000 – $8,000 in financial assistance to study anywhere in the world

Hakuoh University International Study Tour (deadline: March 1, 2017 at 4:00pm HST)

10-day summer homestay in Tochigi Prefecture, Japan

Aichi University Exchange Program (deadline: March 1, 2017 at 4:00pm HST)

One semester or one year student exchange program in Aichi, Japan

Monbukagakusho Scholarship (deadline: April 21, 2017 at 4:00pm HST)

One year of intensive Japanese language study followed by two years at a Senshu-gakko (specialized training college) in Japan

Participants may be eligible for a grant of $3,000 for one semester or $6,000 for academic year

Student Government-Candidate Forum Meeting-Thursday Sept. 15th

The UHMC Student Government will be holding their first meeting to discuss the details about the upcoming UHMC Candidate Forum. They asked me to extend an invitation to any students interested in getting involved.  The meeting will take place at the Student Government Office located in the Pilina Building downstairs across from the TLC at 3:00pm to 4:00pm Thursday, September 15, 2016.

Indigenous Crop Biodiversity Festival begins this week!

ICBF logoCelebrate indigenous crops and biodiversity conservation in Maui Naui, Aug 24-30, 2016! This is a parallel event to the IUCN World Conservation Congress that begins on Oahu next week.

The Indigenous Crop Biodiversity Festival 2016 is a unique and extraordinary event that will bring together participants from around the globe to experience a week of inspiring actions, workshops, site visits, special lectures, films, music, art, food and celebration around some of the most pressing conservation and sustainability issues of our time. To volunteer at the festival, contact Penny Levin at [email protected]. They are still looking for lei givers and helpers for the main festival day.

Seeking a Student Assistant to work part-time now through Fall semester

  • 100 hours total, standard student pay rate (9.75/hour)
  • Grant-funded position to support the Smokefree UHMC Initiative
  • Starting A.S.A.P. (ideally before school starts)
  • Hours are flexible -we’ll work around your class schedule and other life obligations

Sample tasks:

  • working at tabling events
  • helping to implement a logo contest
  • helping to plan a movie night
  • creating a social media presence
  • taking and organizing pictures
  • posting documents to a Laulima site
